Col. Joseph Munger has served as Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Cyber Command, since May 2025.
Munger graduated from Gonzaga University in 1996 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in Field Artillery. His first assignment was with the 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.
From there he served in operational assignments with the 4th Infantry Division, 25th Infantry Division, and 5th Battlefield Coordination Detachment, as well as institutional assignments at the US Army Mission Command Training Program and Headquarters, Department of the Army. Munger completed two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and one tour in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
He completed senior service college at the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy and was assigned to the Washington Liaison Office of U.S. Central Command, where he served as a Military Advisor for the Special Envoys for Syria, Iran, and Yemen, and then as the Director of Legislative Affairs.
Prior to his assignment as Chief of Staff, Munger served as the ARCYBER Deputy Chief of Staff for Force Management (G-7).
