Maj. Gen. Neil S. Hersey has served as Deputy Commanding General - Operations, U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER), since July 2021.
Prior to his assignment to ARCYBER he served as Commanding General, U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence (CCOE) and Fort Gordon, Ga., since June 2019, following his previous tour as the CCOE and Fort Gordon Deputy Commanding General and Commandant of the U.S. Army Cyber School.
He is a Distinguished Military Graduate of Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas and commissioned as a military intelligence (MI) officer through the Reserve Officers Training Corps program.
Hersey’s command tours in aviation and MI units include Aerial Reconnaissance Company, 1st MI Battalion, V Corps; Mission Troop, United States Office of Military Support; 1st MI Battalion, 66th MI Brigade, U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM); 21st Cavalry Brigade (Air Combat), U.S. Army Forces Command; and Joint Task Force ODIN, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan.
Hersey’s combat and operational experience includes multiple deployments in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan; OPERATIONS DENY FLIGHT, JOINT ENDEAVOR, JOINT GUARD, and JOINT FORGE, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary; and OPERATION ALLIED FORCE, Albania and Kosovo. He also led Joint Task Force ODIN, a multifunctional aviation and intelligence force supporting U.S. Forces Afghanistan.
He has earned master's degrees in National Security Strategy and Military Applied Arts and Sciences from the National Defense University and the Air University. He is a graduate of the Military Intelligence Officer Basic and Advanced courses; the U.S. Army Rotary-wing and Fixed-wing aviation courses; the U.S. Air Force Command and General Staff College; the National War College; and the Ranger, Airborne, and Air Assault schools. He is a special operations qualified master aviator, rated in multiple rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft, with more 3,700 total flight hours, including 1,700 hours in combat and contingency operations.
His awards and decorations are typical of an officer of his rank and years of service.
He is married and has two children.
