Command Sgt. Maj. William G. Bruns assumed responsibility as command sergeant major of U.S. Army Cyber Command on Jan. 21, 2016.

A Pennsylvania native, he entered the U.S. Army and completed Initial Entry Training as a Tactical Satellite and Microwave Operator/Maintainer. Since that time, his career has led him to numerous assignments at the tactical, operational and strategic levels in the Army. During his career he has held every leadership position from Team Leader to brigade-level Command Sergeant Major.

Prior to his assignment at ARCYBER, Command Sgt. Maj. Bruns served as the Command Sergeant Major for the Army Communications-Electronics Command and Senior Command Sergeant Major, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

Command Sgt. Maj. Bruns’s assignments prior to CECOM include Electronic Test Company, Electronic Proving Grounds at Fort Huachuca, Az.; Regional Signal Group, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Mons, Belgium; B Co., 369th Signal Battalion, Fort Gordon, Ga.; The White House Military Office, Presidential Contingencies Programs, Washington, D.C.; Defense Information Systems Agency - Korea Field Office, Seoul, Korea; 293rd Sig. Co., 36th Signal Battalion, Camp Carroll, Korea; 82nd Airborne Division G6, Fort Bragg, N.C.; United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas; 112th Signal Battalion (Special Operations)(Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.; 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.; and Commandant of the Henry H. Lind NCO Academy, I Corps, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. Command Sgt. Maj. Bruns has also been deployed multiple times and to various locations in support of overseas contingency operations.

Command Sgt. Maj. Bruns’s military education includes the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (Resident Course); Battle Staff Course, Jump Master Course, Pathfinder Course, First Sergeant Course, Senior Leaders Course, Airborne School, Drill Sergeant Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Basic Leader Course and Combat Life Saver Course.

Command Sgt. Maj. Bruns holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Studies from the University of Maryland and a Master's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Project Management.

Bruns’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), the Meritorious Service Medal (with four oak leaf clusters), the Joint Service Commendation Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal (with two oak leaf clusters), the Army Achievement Medal (with three oak leaf clusters), the Good Conduct Medal (9th award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Development Ribbon (with Numeral 4), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (with Numeral 3), the NATO Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Presidential Service Badge, the Drill Sergeant Badge, Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge and Driver Badge. He is also authorized to wear the German Armed Forces Badge for Weapons Proficiency (Gold), German Sports Badge (Gold), and Australian and German jump wings. Command Sgt. Maj.
